| Christopher Tokalon is a musician, composer, performer, sound therapist and recording artist. He has played sax and flute since 1979 in a wide variety of jazz ensembles, musicals and cabarets, as well as being constantly involved in and performing local original music with bands and artists such as Peto, the Jazz Hounds, Steve Newman, Tony Cox, Robin Auld, Drum Cafe and his own world music project, Soulbird. He is also known for his astonishing ability to mimic musical instruments, birds, animals and people in performance and has developed a natural ability for overtone singing and creating evocations of natural sounds as part of a Sound therapy process. |

About ten years ago Christopher started specializing in Sound Playshops
focusing on "The Power of Sound". This is the ultimate
stress-reliever and is a process where delegates lie down and receive a wonderfully calming,
energizing sound experience with live music played around them. The effect of this
is to shake
loose stress and trauma and create a balance between body, mind and spirit.
These can be done for groups or individuals and Chris has taken
literally thousands of people on transformational Sound experiences.
Christopher is also an expert in facilitating interactive and inspirational
music and comedy for teambuilding in corporations, on holistic retreats,
children's playshops and as a supplement to other workshops. He has
produced three CDs of specially composed music for relaxation and upliftment.
His work has received acclaim from therapists, health journals and
basically everyone who has been on an uplifting sound experience with him.
Currently based in Cape Town, Chris often travels up to Johannesburg and the Garden Route. Available for national and global events.
Some more history : Christopher performed at the 2006 opening of the "Exploring Consciousness Film and featured in the movie "Good Vibrations" an award-winning documentary on the connection between sound, music and spirituality featuring Christopher as one of the speakers. He performed at many events during the World Cup Soccer period in Cape Town.
Interactive
Music Facilitation for Corporate Teambuilding
The
event starts with interactive music making (not drumming!), conducted by a
skilled musician, comedian and impersonator. This is Chris the “Marvelous
Mouth” as Madiba, Satchmo and the human trumpet amongst others. The music is
simple and suitable for any level of musicianship and involves the use of
finger snapping, hand clapping and voice, all facilitated by the Marvelous
Mouth!! The emphasis is on being playful, child-like and
spontaneous, i.e. having fun, giving everyone an opportunity to playfully
discard the usually serious and formal interactions of office life with much
laughter erupting.
Chris has also facilitated interactive music circles with children which is very popular and a wonderful way for kids to connect with their natural talent and musical selves.

Christopher Tokalon has recorded and produced two CD's of music composed with
soothing and uplifting qualities – “Dance in De Light” and “Soulbird
Sound Journeys”, while retaining a magical musicality in melodic and
rhythmic content. He also does recording sessions, specializing in sax, flute,
meditative, world music, African and Jazz styles.

GRAND NEWS!!!! The big, grand news is
that Christopher Tokalon's third CD is complete, hot off the press!! This is
exciting to many of you who requested music that is as close as possible to the sound
experience you have had with him. It is a true and
audible record of the work he has been doing, live, with all the participants in the last ten years, a group effort from all. The CD is called ‘Wonderings’, an expression of the
wonder of creation, how it makes us wonder how it all works, as we wander
through the mystery and splendour, on the pathways of perception and evolution. They are also available at Look and Listen stores nationwide and selected music and book stores. |

Voice-overs
and Overtone Singing
Able to imitate many instruments, accents, sounds and people. Voice-overs for
advertisements, radio and kiddies' programmes. Chris Tokalon has also mastered
the art of overtone singing (the ability to sing two or more notes
simultaneously and sound like a Tibetan Choir) and is available to give
lessons.

You
might have seen him in
recent years alongside Steve Newman and Tony Cox as a saxophonist, flautist
and funny front man in the musical comedy "Don't
Tune Us - We'll Tune You";
imitating instruments and impersonating a couple of well-loved public
figures with hilarious results. He
returns to the stage with a solo show, quite aptly titled "Don't
Tune Me - I'll Tune You!"
This is where he gets to show off and combine all his talents as a comedian, musician, composer, sound therapist and whacky, walking windbag – in this highly entertaining show he calls himself ‘the Marvellous Mouth’ because of his astonishing abilities to mimic musical instruments, people, birds and animals. All these skills are put to good use in a dazzling array of musical events and ‘tunes’.
The
show consists of snappy and witty monologues in various accents and
characters, which are accompanied by his ‘tunes’, that display an
unbelievable range of vocal gymnastics! He used to be modest, but now he’s
perfect!
This
is all woven together with a nifty technical device called the DD20 Loop
Sampler; a foot pedal which enables Christopher to record or loop his voice
live in front of his audience. He adds layer after layer of bass, drums,
guitar, trumpet etc., etc. and all the sounds are produced from his big fat
marvellous mouth. Basically he multi-tracks himself to create his own backing
band and then adds on vocals and lyrics which contain silly and /or inspiring
messages which are funny and potentially life changing to the listener.
Some
tunes have no silly lyrics in them, instead they have melodic and haunting
interwoven melodies from vocals, sax and flute. Sax and flute are his real
life instruments which he mastered when he was a more ‘serious’ musician.
His
show is suitable entertainment for any celebration or event, private or
corporate and it appeals to all age groups. It is child friendly as well! Two
popular sayings will endorse this show; “if music be the food of love, play
on” and “laughter is the best medicine”. So as Christopher Tokalon says,
“Don’t tune me – I’ll tune you!”
