There will be a huge focus towards the state of our oceans this week. Some of you may have already received this news, but if not, please assist in any way you can.

On Saturday morning, 19 June 2010 in Ponta d'Oura, Mozambique, at 3am in the morning, the beautiful camps developed by Dolphin Encounters, the Whaler and Simply Scuba all burnt down. They have lost everything that has taken years to build.

I am in tears for my friends there and for the loss of my sanctuary and second home, where I was privileged to have spent so many wonderful times year after year and have watched it grow and develop since 1996 with all the trials and tribulations that made life there so wonderful, yet so difficult for those who created those amazing spaces. I will treasure the memories, as I am sure will those of you who have spent time there with me.

The Dolphin Camp would welcome your assistance to help them start over again.

During this week, the International Whaling Commission will gather in Agadir, Morocco to vote on a proposal that would legalize commercial whale hunting for the first time since 1986.

The global public is against this proposal, but pro-whaling countries are pushing for it hard. Let's make sure our voices are heard.

Avaaz has a team on the ground in Agadir setting up billboards, publishing front-page newspaper ads, and building a giant, constantly-updating petition counter to show that the world's people oppose whale slaughter.
