Poi Workshops

How about considering a *"Poi" Workshop as part of a teambuilding exercise.  This is unique and fresh, and I would recommend it for the after-lunch lull.  It allows people to step out of the mind, stretch their limbs and stretch their limits while having a great deal of fun and it certainly re-energises them.

We can take the fun a step further and use the Poi Workshop as an analysis and very relevant part of teambuilding - to see how people function in teams.  Behavioral patterns and attitudes come fully into play when participants are taken outside the norm.  We can also recommend Life Coaches and Teambuilding Facilitators that can facilitate the whole process for staff and groups.

*"Poi" originates from the Maoris of New Zealand and was the name given by them to a ball of any sort that one can swing around on chains, ropes or string.  We use ribbon poi for teambuilding and for teaching students, until they are au fait with the poi and only then do we go onto the magic of fire!

Sundancer facilitated two Poi Workshops with Standard Bank in 2007 and 2008 at Forum Homini in Muldersdrift with about 60 participants in each.  Much laughter erupted as the participants tried to unravel knots and avoid the ribbon poi connecting with their heads and other parts of their bodies.

Many displayed a natural talent and great co-ord and I hope are using Poi as a party trick to impress people still today.

SUNDANCER POI TEAMBUILDING :

1 facilitator is required per 10 people max.

Each participant is required to purchase or hire a set of poi.  We provide stock and have a couple of options available.

A large enough, outdoor, shady area is preferable, but also can be done in a hall or high-ceilinged room.

We recommend 1 hr as arms and shoulders can begin to ache with movements people are unaccustomed to.

1 hour is also sufficient time to learn a good few basic moves.  Each participant progresses at their own pace and facilitators will swap people around so that the groups are more or less evenly balanced.

We choose the most promising student from each group to do a short 5-minute round to show off the skills they've acquired.

Even more spectacular, at the end of the day, Sundancer Firedancers can dazzle all participants before dinner with a fire show.  For more oomph we can dance to the accompaniment of accomplished djembe drummers and percussionists.

Drumming Workshops

We are all born with a natural rhythm, but this lies forgotten as we grow older.  Drumming workshops are an excellent way to reconnect with that inherent rhythm and to create unity in groups.  Sundancer works with many professional and experienced drum and percussion outfits who can facilitate a drum workshop for large groups, private, public or corporate.
